Effective comments

1. "I am an immigrant - 25 years ago. When I immigrated, America considered immigration an opportunity for he US. An opportunity that it managed and balanced with human rights, integration, and the rule of law. Now, I am told that I am not welcome, that I am a threat. The Trump administration, unlike most other administrations considers immigration a threat. And it does everything to further that threat. The uncontrolled chaos at the border is the result of the Trump policies. He dismantled the state department that was the eyes and ears on the ground to manage the relationship with other counties. Now such relationships are threats and retaliations. The end result is just a total disaster. We the immigrants are feeling unwelcome, fearful and the future immigrants are faced with a happenstance policy nobody can comprehend."(Jzu)
2. "All that remains is the people. The most important task for the Democratic Party is to remove all obstacles to voting, for everyone. History teaches that protecting the right to vote is a battle that has to be fought over and over again, but it cannot be ignored or delayed."( John Mccoy)
3. "Canadians have a strong sense of "we." Americans still favor the fantasy of the all-important "I." We Americans have always had trouble recognizing the reality known as "society," in which we are all in the same boat."(BF)
4. "A big difference is the attitude towards poverty itself. Many Americans view that poverty is the fault of the individual, they are lazy or stupid etc. Not much acknowledgement that lack of opportunity is a major factor. So from this op ed we can see Canadians organize to create local opportunities and are having success. America once was known as the land of opportunity, which it was due to many factors. 5. "The most important norm of all is truth telling. Without it, we loose our sense of a shared reality, which in turn makes working together impossible. For example, there is no longer a scientific controversy over whether humans are causing a dangerous amount of climate change. Yet politicians continue to pretend that it's merely a conjecture. Donald Trump's worst offense is that he has normalized lying in politics to a degree I'd never have believed possible. When he lies, "he speaks his native language." His followers treat his relentless lying as an endearing eccentricity, or at worst, as an example of God using a bad man to good purpose. I never thought I'd see an American President who speaks falsely so often that major publications display his lie count as a box score, like a baseball statistic."(writeon1)

Those are the effective comments. They stay on the topic, use example or personal experience, use statistic, comment in a polite way.

"Bad" comments

Those comments are getting off the topic, or kind of emotional.
